1209 Oella Avenue
This is one of the two oldest stone houses on Granite Hill. It has log joists in the walk-out basement. Just south of the "S" turn on Oella Avenue, it overlooks the Patapsco River and is a short walk to downtown Ellicott City with its shops and restaurants. A 20th Century addition has been removed and replaced by a new structure. Doorways have been cut through the walls separating the adjacent duplex so that they now have become one.
There are three and a half Baths and three Bedrooms, one of which is on the first floor. That room could alternately be used as a Great Room with a pull-out bed and adjoining Bath for guests, because on the second floor there is a unique room with a cathedral ceiling and a Loft at one end that could readily serve as a wonderful Master Bedroom. There are two Basements, one in each former house. From the second Bedroom on the second floor, there is a spiral stairs to a Loft area, which is small but charming. This house is heated by gas and has two air conditioners and two thermostats. There are two decks on the exterior facing the river. The west wall of the entrance hall is granite, bathed in light by cove fixtures. The Living Room boasts of an original stone and brick Fireplace while granite countertops grace the Kitchen. Refinished old pine floors and new oak floors enhance the unique character of the house.
This home has benefited from the interior design skills of Roselind Cronin of Sulin Interiors, of Ellicott City, whose talents are widely recognized in style and house magazines.
